PRAYER DIARY – June 2010
THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE OF ZIMBABWE
"Our purpose is to develop Christian leaders committed to effective leadership and ministry in both the Church and society."

Thursday, June 1– Each term the TCZ community has the privilege of a college Quiet Day. Lectures are cancelled and the morning is given over to singing, preaching, corporate prayer and discussion, then a time of personal reflection. In June, Rev. Roger Prime and his wife Gillian visited TCZ to lead TCZ’s Quiet Day. Roger had been a student at London School of Theology (formerly the London Bible College) with Rev. Alfred Simango (TCZ Chaplain). Praise God for the refreshing encouragement that comes from such times of fellowship.

Friday, June 2– Rev. Christopher Nxumalo (Adv.Dip. ’92, B.A. ’07) is the Missions Coordinator at the Bulawayo Baptist Church. Pray for the $35,000 (U.S.) needed for further operations for his son Daniel, who has a rare bone disease. The operations will be done in South Africa.

Saturday, June 3– The Association of Colleges for Theological Education in Zimbabwe has an executive meeting in the Zimbabwean Midlands today. The meeting will include college librarians and college students’ wings. As part of trying to get the idea of “association” across, instead of presenting a “business report,” Dr. Robert Heaton (TCZ Academic Dean and ACTEZ Acting Chairman) will give a presentation on “Teaching Administration in Ministry: Some Worldview Issues.” Pray that this will provoke some discussion about what colleges are doing about their respective college administrations.

Sunday, June 4– Norman Chivasa (B.A. ’04, Hons. ’05) asks for prayer as he conducts a seminar in early June at the Overseers seminar in Nyanga. “This is the highest council in our denomination (Apostolic Faith Mission) and the President of the church will be there as I present. That has always been my dream and God has made it possible. I ask for wisdom as I carry out research and studies in preparation for this.”

Monday, June 5– The whole sub-continent is still humming with excitement from the recent world cup soccer extravaganza in South Africa. Archieford Muchaka (Student member of the TCZ Committee of Student Activities) fell from a ladder while preparing the TCZ auditorium for a screened presentation of one of the soccer matches. Praise God for his protection from the fall and that Mrs. Mpofu was so helpful at the United Bulawayo Hospitals when Archie was admitted for treatment.

Tuesday, June 6 – Pray for the Management Team members who will be submitting reports today for the Board of Trustees meeting later this month.

Wednesday, June 7– Please continue to pray for TCZ’s financial pressures. Salaries have been greatly cut from June. Give thanks for the arrangement (facilitated by TCZ students) in which a group of companies have expressed interest in paying the salary of one member of faculty, and for the anonymously donated box of A4 bond paper. Praise God for the knowledge and experience that
Jesus Christ sustains his work.

Thursday, June 8 – Pray for those mourning in the TCZ community. Bekithemba Dube (Student) lost his aunt at the beginning of term break and his twin brother soon after that. Pray also for Danisa Dube (Student) mourning the death of his aunt.

Friday, June 9– Praise God that Martin Chipimo (Administration and Finance Manager) has passed his final examination in advanced accounting and financial reporting. This qualifies Martin as a member of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Zimbabwe.

Saturday, June 10 – Pray for Dr. William Houston as he steps down from being the International Regional Director for Africa for Overseas Council International (OCI) at the OCI board meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana. Praise God for the support OCI has given to TCZ through Bill’s instructive visits to the college, OCI’s Institutes for Excellence in Christian Leadership Development, and OCI’s financial support for faculty and students at TCZ.

Sunday, June 11– Paul Kapofu (TCZ Student) asks for prayer for his daughter, who needs the Lord’s touch on her eyes. Preliminary tests indicate that she is losing sight in one of her eyes.

Monday, June 12– Pray for Keletso Mwamuka (Academic Secretary) in her responsibilities during “registration week.” Potential students for the third term of 2010 and new students for the bridging term will finalise their positions at the college during this week.

Tuesday, June 13 – Pray for Shadreck Simango, son of Alfred Simango (TCZ Chaplain) as he is scheduled for an ulcer operation tomorrow. The ulcers began to bleed during a malaria attack in June. Praise God for the medical care that has been available to Shadreck.

Wednesday, June 14– Praise God for the course on Ephesians being held at the college in the evenings for the public. Rev. Craig Jones (Lecturer) is particularly grateful for the considerably high participation of Seventh Day Adventists.

Thursday, June 15 – Pray for the TCZ Administration and Finance Committee meeting today to discuss the college’s finances. Much wisdom is required when income has dropped to below half of the budgeted levels for 2010.

Friday, June 16– TCZ’s 2009 strategic planning process placed the establishment of a Masters Program as second on the list of priorities. The planning committee has been meeting regularly. Pray for wisdom for the committee members to know the needs of the church and the wisdom needed to launch the program well.

Saturday, June 17 – Dr. Robert Heaton (TCZ Academic Dean) is also the chairman of the Glad Tidings Bible School Board. The board asks for prayer as they conduct their meeting today.

Sunday, June 18– Dr. Victor Nakah will be in Denver, Colorado (USA) to discuss the Lausanne Conference scheduled for October 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. The conference is expecting 5,600 delegates from 260 countries. Praise God for the 320 Globalink sites in 65 countries, bringing another 65 to 75 thousand
participants into the global conversation.

Monday, June 19 – Faculty meet today for the last meeting of the second term. Pray for a constructive gathering as a full agenda takes this key group of college leaders through many areas of college business.

Tuesday, June 20– Pray for Phyllis Engle (former TCZ Librarian) preparing to depart again for Zambia from the USA to work at the library at the Theological College of Central Africa. “Though going back to Zambia isn’t exactly a new era for me, it is a new period in my life as the past 6 months is the longest time I have spent in the US in 10 years. I leave, trusting that God will fulfil His promise to be with me wherever I go and thanking Him for His faithfulness in the past.”

Wednesday, June 21 – Moses Kalafula (Adv.Dip. and B.A. ’07, and Women’s Ministry Lecturer) is marrying Melphine today. Moses says, “We do need prayers, thanking God for the progress made so far and asking for guidance and more provision.”

Thursday, June 22– Pray for TCZ students as they wrap up final classes and assignment submissions at the end of this week before setting their eyes toward examinations in just over a week.

Friday, June 23 – The TCZ community gathers for the final chapel of the second term with a communion service. Pray for health and safekeeping over the examination period and the term break of ministry for the students that lies ahead for the next six weeks.

Saturday, June 24– Next week is “Reading Week” prior to college examinations. Pray that students will be able to focus on preparing for exams.

Sunday, June 25 – Nearby Petra Schools continue to serve TCZ by providing subsidised education for college faculty and staff. Their faithful generous giving makes it possible for a number of faculty and staff to remain at TCZ, especially when cash salaries have been so dramatically cut. Pray for the Petra Schools as they observe their “Founders Day” with a celebration service and fun day today.

Monday, June 26– The TCZ Board of Trustees meet today at one of their three annual meetings. Pray for the decisions that will take the college into the future, especially when TCZ is faced with difficult financial challenges.

Tuesday, June 27 – Faculty and staff have an end-of-term meeting today. This will be the last for the National University of Science and Technology attachment program participants. Praise God for the service to TCZ over the past ten months of Kudakwashe Kanda (IT Attachee), Langelihle Ngwenya (Library Attachee) and Vimbai Goredema (Library Attachee). Pray for these students as they return to NUST to complete their final year of study before graduating with undergraduate degrees in their respective fields of study.

Wednesday, June 28– Financial constraints have meant that TCZ librarians are not able to participate in the 2010 Christian Association of Librarians in Africa conference in Kenya this year. However, the benefits of being part of this association are many. Pray for the conference participants and a fruitful time of encouragement and shared knowledge.

Thursday, June 29– Pray for Mathieu Pelletier (Lecturer and IT Director) as he chairs the Information Technology Committee meeting today. Praise God for Mat’s management of college communications when telephone services have been suspended and electrical power is intermittent.

Friday, June 30 – Thank God for the team of Messiah College students and the generous consultation offer by Brendon Earl to maintain momentum on the solar project. As electrical power has become scarcer and more expensive, the Messiah College solar initiative has assumed a vital position in the powering of the TCZ campus.

Saturday, June 31– Pray for Dan Derrick (Gordon-Conwell Overseas Mission Practicum 2008 participant) and his wife Karen as they start to travel toward Zimbabwe today from the U.S. Pray that Dan’s time with Pradip Sudra (TCZ Lecturer) considering the college teaching on missions will be encouraging and fruitful.

We thank you for praying with us.
